No School this Friday, Staff Development Day.
1st Graders have been working so hard to earn tickets through STAR homework and going above and beyond in the classroom. We will open our classroom store for in October. We need lots of prizes for these hard working kids to purchase with their tickets. If you can, please think about donated prizes to our store. Anything from pencils and erasers to...sky the limit. Even gently used small toys or stuffed animals are good for donating. You can drop these off with me in the classroom in the morning or at the gate with Mrs. Harrison in the afternoon. Thank you so much in advance.
Pumpkin Patch Field trip!- Our trip will be October 10th. We will leave school at 8:10. We will be going to Books Family Farm where they have a wonderful program that educates young kids about where their food comes from. Each student will also get to pick a pumpkin. Cost of the field trip is $9.00 per student. We need parent drivers too. Make sure your insurance information is current in the office. All students need to have a booster seat. Permission slips will be sent home tomorrow.
Mrs. Harrison's Birthday is September 30th. We will be celebrating her birthday on Friday, September 29th. She is so special to our class and we want to make her feel loved.
In Math we are wrapping up our "telling time" unit. Attached to the homework menu will be a telling time page worth 2 STARs if they complete both sides.
Homework- Remember to read 80 minutes a week (20 min a day). This homework is required. Fill out the STAR reading, sign it and turn it in on FRIDAY. The weekly homework menu is optional but so worth while. Students can do these activities for more STARs. Be sure to sign it and turn it in on FRIDAY also. Last week to turn in the book order.
Super Power of the week- Diligence- Working hard on hard jobs. Following through to the end of the job.
This week in Zoo Phonics we are learning words in the "ot" family and reviewing words in the "an, at, id" family. Work on having your child signal the letter sounds as well as writing them. The added physical activity helps cement the spelling in their brains. Check out our new sight word tab on this webpage.
Science Fridays- Last week we learned how the sun rises and sets at different times, in different seasons. We also learned about the Autumn equinox which was on September 22nd. This Friday we will explore "Why do the Stars come out at night?"
