Know your first grader- Last week we read two books talking about tattling and did a situation sort activity where they had to identify tattling vs. reporting. We also talked about how we are like a big family and just like how we might get annoyed with our brothers and sisters on a long road trip or summer vacation, we also get annoyed by our friends. Discussion at home: What is annoying or frustrating? How can I solve the problem in a respectful, responsible way.
Ticket Store was a wonderful success!!! Thank you to all the parents who sent in prizes and made this possible. The students were amazing at counting out their tickets and purchasing the items they wanted. Counting to 120 is a 1st grade standard and these first graders demonstrated that like champs! Your first grader might be super excited about doing homework and earning more stars, which get them tickets for the store. Take advantage of this motivations!
In Math we are continuing our number sense unit. Last week we introduced subtraction and will continue to work on this concept. Adding and subtracting within 20 is a 1st grade standard and we are practicing in many ways here at school. You can also practice at home. STmath (Jiji)- All the levels up to 35% are unlocked to do at home!!! If your1st grade hasn't passed 33% yet this would be a great activity at home.
Super Power of the week, Assertiveness- is being positive and confident. It begins by being aware that you are a worthy person with your own special gifts (superpowers).
In Zoo Phonics This week we will learn the "dr" blend. Lexia-This is also a great online practice activity for your 1st graders.
Social Science Fridays- last Friday we explored maps and what they tell us. We also learned the major parts of a map, compass rose, title, and key. This Friday we will look a the earth and how it is divided into oceans and continents. We will also explore what resources come from where.
Homework- Read 80 minutes a week (20 min a day). Homework menu (optional) but so worth it.
Halloween- Next Tuesday we will have a casual Halloween Party. If you want please send a healthy snack to share with the class. We will share and have fun throughout the day.
