We completed our first week in 1st grade! Yay! This bunch of 1st graders are amazing. Truly amazing! They sat , listened, practiced procedures and followed instructions so well. Your 1st grader will be very tired for the first few weeks. This is normal in the first few week as they adjust from summer to a new school routine.
Last week we did several team building activities where all the kids were able to problem solve, make a plan, and follow thru. They were able to shave an impressive 2 minutes off their bean bag challenge. Our Lego team building challenge will continue this week. This week we will also begin working in ST Math and Lexia.

Today was the Solar Eclipse and the middle school team created some safe viewing centers for the elementary students to view the solar eclipse. Ask your 1st grader what they got to see. This was a great intro into our space unit which we will start in the next few months.
Our Super Power (Virtue) of the week is the ability to show... EXCELENCE. Calling all super students, we need you!
Back to School Night is this Thursday, the 24th! There will be an all parent meeting in the multi purpose room led by Mr. Wright at 5:30. I will give two classroom presentations at 6:30 & 7:00. Middle School teachers give their presentation at 7:00. I am excited to see all of you again. I will be explaining how our classroom works and the procedures you need to know. I will also be talking about our parent volunteer sign up. This meeting is for parents only and will be very boring for your 1st grader.
Homework- We are easing into our STAR homework. This week you will find STAR Reading in the Homework Folder. This week the 1st graders can fill in a STAR for every 10 min. they read with a parent or much older sibling. Ways to ready: read to them while they follow along, read with them while they help with some words or pages, they read to you while you follow along. This is also a great time for bonding with your kiddo. Please return this folder on Friday with the completed homework. If you need books from the classroom please contact me. I will be sending books home regularly after we finish assessments in a few weeks. Don't forget to turn in your "In a Million Words or Less" and Emergency Card Info. A few students are still in need of headphones. These are so important and used on a daily basis.
Monday Folders- Today you also received a Monday folder. This folder includes important papers from me and the office. Any completed work in this folder can stay at home. Please return this folder ASAP or at least by Friday. Thank you! Book orders are due Friday Sept. 1st!
Have a SUPER week,
Mrs. Kevwitch
