I hope you all had a great weekend. It sounded like most of the kids watched the super bowl and had a great time. Lots of tired faces in the crowd today.
Valentine's Day is next Wednesday. We will have a Valentine's party at the end of the day. I will put a sign up on the our Facebook page if you want to bring a treat to share. Not everyone has to bring in valentines to pass out, but if you do please send in one for every student. We have 24 students. Reminder: we have one students with a nut allergy, please be careful not to send in anything with tree nuts in it. Thank you!
Super Power of the week is: Excellence- In first grade we are talking about how to use excellence to finish up the trimester and later we will talk about Olympians how they use excellence. In the upper grades they will be talking about preparing for testing and showing excellence in their test taking. Talk with your child about how they can show excellence at school and at home.
This week in Daily 5 we are so close to our goal of 20 min! They also writing more and more in their journals. This week we are writing 3 sentence paragraphs on a topic of their choice.
In Zoo Phonics we are switching from "bossy e" to polite partners. The first set of polite partners will be the "ai" team. For example words like: bait, gain, mail, rain, snail, trail, brain, strain. In these words the i is polite and it lets the a do the talking. A cute rhythm we say learn is "when two vowels go a walking the first one does the talking."
Science Friday- Last week we learned about trees and how their trunk, branches, and leaves keep them from falling over in the wind. A tree bends and flutters in the wind instead of catching the wind like a sail. We used this adaptation to invent an umbrella that wouldn't blow over on the beach. As your first grader what they did to make their umbrella better able to handle the wind. This was another great example for our at home science projects. If you still need ideas or help email me!!! Project is due on the 20th and will be displayed on the 22 four Open House night.
Homework- read for 20 minutes a night and I have included 2 math pages as required homework. For this reason I did not include a menu. As the math concepts get more complicated it is so beneficial to complete these math homework pages. If you have any questions or confusion please email me.
